DESCRIPTION:Background \nHepatitis Scotland\, in partnership with the MRC – University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research (CVR)\, are offering a unique experience for people diagnosed with hepatitis C. \nAs part of the Medical Research Council’s (MRC) Festival of Medical Research\, they would like to offer the opportunity to meet with some of the world-leading researchers working on hepatitis C research in Glasgow. \nGlasgow has played a key role in virus research since the 1940s and the CVR has an incredibly dedicated team who devote their careers to researching hepatitis C Virus. The researchers would like to share their knowledge by inviting you to join them at their research centre. \nThe CVR’s expert scientists will take you on the path of a blood sample during an exclusive tour of the CVR’s world-class research facilities. They will show you the different ways it could be used in their research and explain the vital role that patients play in supporting hepatitis C research. \nThis is a unique opportunity to learn about the key areas of research and about the milestones and discoveries that have led to breakthrough treatments. \nEvent\nThey are planning to run two half-day sessions on Thursday 23 June 2016 and offer places for around 20 delegates per session. \nAll travel costs will be covered and a buffet lunch will be provided for everyone\, in-between the morning and afternoon sessions. \nThe morning session runs from 10:00am to 12:30pm\nThe afternoon session runs from 1:30pm to 4:00pm \nThe morning and afternoon sessions are the same\, so people will attend either the morning or the afternoon session. \nThe sessions consist of: \nWelcome and setting the scene for the day\nTours of the world class research facilities\nQ&A sessions with the scientists\nPosters\, discussions and workshops covering:\nWhat is a virus/Hepatitis C virus\nBreakthroughs in treatment\nVaccination development\nResistance to treatment\nMapping the spread of Hepatitis C in populations \nBooking\n*** This is a free event. Places are limited\, so please book soon to avoid disappointment. *** \nThis event is for people who have ever been diagnosed with hepatitis C and who live in Scotland.
